الملخص
Climate change refers to significant and long-term changes in the global climate. This phenomenon could have significant side effects on several sectors and systems such as the desalination of seawater, public health, food security, and transportation systems in specific. This climate change could alter different climate factors in future that affect the resilience of transportation systems such as temperature, precipitation, wind speed, solar radiation, and humidity. For example, global warming is expected to affect the design of the asphalt pavements and asphalt binder selection for roads construction in the UAE.The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Vision is targeting a sustainable environment and infrastructure while achieving a perfect balance between economic and social development. The effect of climate change should be carefully considered during the design phase for a sustainable selection of construction materials. Therefore, The SUPERPAVE requirements created as part of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) program provide better foundation for binder selection will be utilized in this research. Therefore, Performance Grading (PG) system, which is under the SUPERPAVE specification is being considered in this research. The PG system assumes that the qualities of an asphalt binder should be tied to the climate and traffic conditions under which it is employed. Asphalt binders with performance grades are chosen to satisfy projected climatic circumstances, as well as traffic speed and load parameters. As a result, the PG system guarantees that the pavement performs at its service temperatures. The resiliency of the asphalt pavements and asphalt binder selection in the UAE is generally expected to be affected through global temperature changes and global warming. This study aims initially at investigating potential historical trends of different climate factors using historical climate data collected from different weather stations in the UAE from 1990 to 2020 to identify the factors that have more potentia
