Abstract
Background: Physiotherapy is an essential component of paediatric burn management. Children are admitted to the paediatric burn unit with their caregivers, who play an important role in helping ensure the child's cooperation during post-burn physiotherapy management. The caregiver's perspective toward physiotherapy management is crucial to improve the overall recovery for the paediatric with burn injuries. Objective: The objective of the study is to investigate caregivers' knowledge, attitudes, burden, adherence to the prescribed exercise and level of satisfaction on physiotherapy treatment for children with burns in the UAE. This study focused on the caregiver's perspective in one governmental hospital in Dubai, UAE, using five domains: caregiver's knowledge, burden, attitude, adherence to a physiotherapy exercise program, and caregiver's satisfaction, using a structural and validated questionnaire. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire. Fifty caregivers were eligible to participate in the study. The analysis of the survey responses was done using SPSS software. Descriptive analysis was used to present the data. Wilcoxon signed rank test, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis test were used to compare the domain scores based on the caregivers age group, education level, employment status and relationship with the child. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient test was used to determine the correlation between the domain scores. Result: Caregivers were highly satisfied with the paediatric burn management and physiotherapy services for children with burn injuries, but they reported a moderate to high level of burden. When the domain scores were compared for gender and age groups, education level, employment status, and caregiver relationship with the child, there were no statistically significant differences.
